Our summer reading list includes...
Lisa See's The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane delves into the culture of the Akha hill people, tea farmers living in the Yunnan village of China. Their history and traditions define them, yet outsiders and technological advancements can't be escaped. Li-yan, one of the few educated woman in the village, acts as a translator to the visiting outsiders and begins to learn more about the world outside of the village. See chronicles the struggle to reconcile tradition and innovation, as well as the circumstances that lead to the separation of Li-yan from her child.
