From the popular writer of Water for Elephants, Gruen's latest novel, At the Water's Edge, is set during WWII. Madeline, a New York high society newlywed, is whisked off on a dangerous ocean-crossing to a remote village in the Scottish Highlands by her errant husband and his best friend. They intend to find the Loch Ness monster. But the men's hare-brained antics eventually take their toll on Madeline who must take stock of her marriage when she's abandoned in a small inn with war-weary inhabitants and soldiering clientele, including a handsome stranger who is disdainful of spoiled-rich Americans.
